All through the nineties, revered digger/vinyl dealer Oli Stewart aka Casbah 73 traveled across America leaving no warehouse standing in his quest for the rare and the downright elusive. His knack for discovering, or bringing to light many an unknown classic, meant his reputation with DJs and producers around the globe was legendary.
The sound of Casbah 73 was born and his early efforts bore fruit in the shape of two enthusiastically welcomed 12” singles, ‘The Way I Am’ and ‘Cabo Verde Strut’ that found immediate favour on the scene both near and afar, followed by two albums and a string of releases employing the language of soul, jazz, disco, Chicago house and contemporary electronic sounds.
Most recently, Casbah 73 has committed to vinyl one of the hottest disco joints of 2018, the insatiably funky “Love Saves The Day”, followed up by his latest release on Lovemonk Records in Feb of this year, which features uplifting Philly-style disco on “To Be Free” and the nine minute jazz-funk odyssey that is “Doing Our Own Thing”.
His DJ sets give you a true sense of who Casbah 73 is: a DJ who lives and breathes music, making full use of his encyclopaedic knowledge to combine the new and the old with a signature eclecticism that comes naturally. Fun, fresh, passionate, always unpredictable and with a style all his own, combined with a strong sense of intuition for the dance floor, forged in a decades-long career behind the decks.
